Trucks come from the factory with rake, meaning the front sits lower than the back. It helps when the bed is loaded or you are towing, but plenty of owners do not like how it looks. A leveling kit fixes that by raising the front to match the rear.
Leveling kits usually use one of these:
- Strut spacers on trucks with coilover struts
- Torsion bar keys on trucks with torsion bar front suspension
- Coil spacers on trucks with coil springs
It is one of the most popular truck modifications because it is simple, affordable compared to a full lift, and makes a big visual difference.
What to know
If you tow heavy or haul a lot, remember the factory rake was there for a reason. With a level truck, a heavy load will make the rear sag more noticeably. Some owners add rear helper springs or airbags if they tow often.
Leveling makes room for slightly larger tires, which often pairs with new aftermarket wheels. After the install, a wheel alignment is required.
