Oil Changes

Engine oil does three jobs. It lubricates moving parts, carries heat away, and holds dirt in suspension until the filter catches it. Over time it breaks down and stops doing those jobs well. That is when wear speeds up.

San Antonio driving is hard on oil. Stop and go traffic on 410 and 1604, short trips around town, towing, and summer days in the high 90s and above all count as severe service in most owner's manuals. If that describes your driving, you may need oil changes more often than the sticker on your windshield suggests.

What an oil change here includes

  • Draining the old oil completely
  • A new oil filter
  • The oil grade and quantity your engine is specified for, conventional, blend, or full synthetic
  • A look at your other fluids, belts, and tires while the car is up

If we see something that needs attention, we tell you what it is and why. You decide what gets done.

Other fluids matter too

Your engine oil is not the only fluid that wears out. Coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid all have service intervals. Our fluid services page covers them. Transmission fluid is its own topic, and transmission service explains when it is due.

Oil changes are done at 12040 O'Connor Rd. Walk-ins are welcome. While you are there, it is a good time for a tire rotation.

Questions we hear

How often do I need an oil change?

Follow the interval in your owner's manual, and use the severe service schedule if you do a lot of short trips, towing, or stop and go driving in the heat. Many newer cars also have an oil life monitor.

Do I need synthetic oil?

If your engine calls for it, yes. Many newer engines are designed for synthetic. We use what your manufacturer specifies.

How long does an oil change take?

It depends on how busy the shop is when you arrive. Call ahead and we can tell you what the wait looks like.
