Tires by position

Commercial truck tires are built for a specific job depending on where they ride:

  • Steer tires sit on the front axle and are designed for handling, even wear, and resistance to irregular wear
  • Drive tires sit on the powered axles and use deeper, blockier tread for traction
  • Trailer tires are built to resist scrubbing and sidewall damage from tight turns

Running the right tire in the right position affects fuel mileage, wear, and how the truck handles. When you call, tell us the position and size and whether you want to match what is already on the truck.

What to know before you buy

Most tractor trailers in the San Antonio area run a handful of common sizes, like 295/75R22.5 and 11R22.5, but check yours before you call. The size, load range, and ply rating are printed on the sidewall.

Ask us about tread depth on your other tires in the same position too. Mismatched tread depth on duals causes the taller tire to carry more load and wear faster.
