What we check

A commercial wheel carries a lot of weight at highway speed, so it gets a careful look before it goes back in service:

  • Cracks, especially around bolt holes and hand holes
  • Bends in the flange or rim that cause runout or leaks
  • Corrosion at the bead seat, a common cause of slow leaks on aluminum wheels
  • Elongated or damaged bolt holes

What can be fixed

Corrosion on the bead seat can often be cleaned up so the tire seals again. Cosmetic damage on aluminum wheels can be addressed. Cracked wheels and wheels with damaged bolt holes should be taken out of service. We will not return a wheel to the road that we would not trust on our own truck.

Loose lug nuts are a common cause of bolt hole damage. Checking lug torque after any wheel service, and again after the first run, is a good habit.

Part of our commercial tire work

Commercial wheel repair is one of our 18-wheeler tire and wheel services at 12040 O'Connor Rd. If a wheel cannot be saved, we will quote a replacement through 18-wheeler wheel sales. For car and light truck wheels, see our wheel repair page.

Commercial wheel questions

Can a cracked semi wheel be welded?

Cracked commercial wheels should be replaced, not repaired. The loads are too high to trust a repaired crack.

Why does my aluminum wheel keep leaking?

Corrosion at the bead seat is a common cause. We can often clean and treat the surface so the tire seals again.
