New Tires

New tires are the core of what we do, and the reason every one of our 3 locations exists. Since 1987 our tire shop has put tires on San Antonio cars, work trucks, and family SUVs, and we know which tires hold up to South Texas heat, highway miles, and the occasional caliche road.

Picking a tire comes down to a few questions we will ask you:

  • What you drive and how, city commuting, highway miles, towing, or off pavement
  • How long you plan to keep the vehicle
  • Whether you care most about ride comfort, tread life, wet grip, or price
  • Your exact size, found on the sidewall, like 265/70R17

Reading your sidewall

The size on your sidewall tells us almost everything we need. In 265/70R17, 265 is the width in millimeters, 70 is the sidewall height as a percentage of that width, R means radial, and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches. After that come the load index and speed rating. Matching or exceeding those numbers keeps you within what your vehicle was designed for.

Also look for the four digit DOT date code. It tells you the week and year a tire was made. A tire can have tread left and still be too old to trust.

Getting them on the car

Every set of new tires gets professional tire installation and computer balancing. If your tires wore unevenly, a wheel alignment at our O'Connor Rd location protects the new set.

New tires are sold at all 3 locations. Stock varies by location, so call ahead with your size and we will check what is on the rack. If only one tire is damaged and the rest are in good shape, a used tire may be the smarter buy.

Questions we hear

How do I know when I need new tires?

Check your tread. Tires have wear bars molded into the grooves, and when the tread is flush with them, the tire is worn out. Also replace tires with sidewall bulges, cracking, or cords showing.

Should I replace all four tires at once?

It is best on all-wheel drive vehicles and when all four are worn. If only one or two need replacing, put the new ones on the rear axle in most cases. We will tell you what makes sense for your vehicle.

Do you have my size in stock?

Each location stocks common sizes, and we can order most others. Call the location nearest you with your size.
