Tire Installation
Tire Installation
A tire is only as good as the install. A tire mounted without care can lose air at the bead, vibrate at speed, or damage a pressure sensor. Getting it right takes the right machine and a little patience.
A proper installation covers these steps:
- Removing the old tire without scratching the wheel or damaging the pressure sensor
- Cleaning the bead seat so the new tire seals
- New valve stems or sensor service parts where needed
- Mounting and seating the tire, then inflating to your door placard pressure
- Computer balancing to eliminate vibration
- Torquing lug nuts to spec in the right pattern
Pressure sensors and warning lights
Most vehicles built since 2008 have a tire pressure monitoring system. The sensors sit inside the wheel, which means they have to be handled carefully during installation. Some vehicles also need the system relearned after tires or wheels are changed, or the warning light stays on. Let us know if your light was on before you came in so we can sort out whether a sensor needs attention.
Part of our tire shop
Installation is part of every tire we sell through our tire shop, whether it is a set of new tires or a single used tire. It is available at all 3 locations. If you bought new wheels, we mount your tires on them too through our wheel store.
Questions we hear
How long does tire installation take?
It depends on how many tires and how busy the shop is. Call ahead and we can give you a realistic wait.
Will you install tires I bought online?
Call us and ask. It depends on the tire and the shop's schedule that day.
Why is my tire pressure light still on after new tires?
Some vehicles need the system relearned, or a sensor may have a weak battery. We can check it.
